A native of North Shore Massachusetts, May Dee grew up with a strong representation of style and design in her surroundings. A small seaside town, Manchester-by-the-Sea is known for its vast beauty in a small setting. There is rich history in its buildings and beauty at every street corner. It is hard not to pay attention to the details when one grows up with both parents as designers: A mother in design, manufacture, and stage business for over 45 years; a father in lighting and color, paint and antiques business for over 35 years. Growing up on the ocean lends a mindset all its own, however May craved the woods, barns and the open fields that are associated with New England farms. During her college career, May would pursue equine sports (Dressage) and earn a degree in Animals Sciences from the University of New Hampshire. Soon after college, May began apprenticing in Massachusetts to learn the planning, construction, and manufacture of furniture pieces, slipcovers, and upholstery. Combined with the ability to see the details of specific pieces, May can also stand back and take in the whole picture. What is the goal of the space? What design schemes can we call upon to reach that goal? Is it a change in paint, fabric, curtain or lighting style that will give the greatest outcome for the reasonable cost? May is here to assist you with all your decorating needs, right down to the pillows on the chair.
